Sourcing Walking Sticks

If you find it hard to source the correct walking sticks here is a small clip, which gives you an idea of, were to look and what to look for. River blanks are a great place to find all types of walking sticks, is this video all the walking sticks were found in the same location on the rivers edge. Hazel grow almost everywhere along river banks but blackthorns only grow in certain places, here on the video the blackthorns are only 10 yards for the river and have been growing there for 10's of years. Its very well grown over and you wouldn't know that there their unless you had a good look around. These blackthorns would make perfect walking sticks, but unless you look after them it gets harder and harder to cut them, when we cut blackthorns we try and keep them open, blackthorns have a tendency to grow on top of each other and tangle themselves up, so when you can its better cut away any branches and open the trees up. In a couple of years you will find a massive difference when looking for the walking sticks you need.

In the video you will see new growth branches growing for a previous cut tree, it may take a long time for blackthorns but someday they’d will make perfect knob walking sticks, and if you take your time a cut of any branches that are getting in they way you will get a good few walking sticks for the one tree.
