Cardigan Walking Sticks

Picture
Cardigan Walking Sticks - the critical thing in making this walking sticks is a suitable shank growing from the a branch at a appropriate angle. If the angle is to wide or to narrow, whilst is may be suitable for other walking sticks but not for cardigan walking sticks.

What we are looking for ia a suitable shank for your walking sticks like on the picture to the left. With such a ahank it will be relatively easy to find sufficent length, width and depth to work with at the point where the potential shank meets the branch of the tree.

In thoery a cardigan walking sticks can be made from any tree which offers a confirmation of a branch and a shank. Most cardigan walking sticks i make come from hazel wood. Not only does hazel have all what we are looking for but the conbinations of a attrative bark and grain on the finished handle are difficult to beat. They only other thing to look for is that ponit A to B on the picture lefted should taper slightly(from A to B). The figure 1.7 is not to scale, if you need the full length give us a email.
