We could also paint the walking sticks black which some people like to get more of a blackthorn coloring, i in my opinion prefer a natural colour of the blackthorn walking canes. Led filled handles in an old traditional in Ireland and the UK, this is when the walking sticks are filled with led in the handle; this puts heaviness to handle but as well as looks very impressive.

Time to Cut Walking Sticks

Now that Christmas is over its time to cut your walking sticks for next year, January is a great time to harvest walking sticks before the summer months where there is a lot of sap in the trees. If you have marked a few walking sticks for last year its always better to check them out and see if they are good this year to make walking sticks or walking canes.

If you leave any walking sticks any longer it takes much more time for the walking sticks to dry out over the year. When the trees are full of sap (summer and spring time) if you decide to cut your walking canes the seasoning normal takes a few months longer than if you cut them in the winter months.
